Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MunafaPlus and the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

What is the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)?

PSX is the national stock exchange of Pakistan, located in Karachi. It lists over 500 companies across sectors like banking, cement, oil & gas, fertilizer, and technology. The KSE-100 index tracks the top 100 companies by market capitalization.

Do I need a finance degree to use MunafaPlus?

Not at all! MunafaPlus is built for everyone — from beginners to experienced investors. Ask the AI Assistant questions in plain English, browse markets visually, or use the stock screener. Every metric is explained in simple terms.

Is MunafaPlus free to use?

Yes, 100% free. No credit card, no premium tier, no limits. Screeners, portfolio tracking, alerts, AI assistant — all free. Competitors charge Rs 500/month for features we give away.

Where does the data come from?

We aggregate from three sources: PSX Data Portal (dps.psx.com.pk), Sarmaaya Financial, and Yahoo Finance. This multi-source approach ensures data availability even when one source is down.

How often is the data updated?

Stock prices update in real-time during market hours (9:30 AM - 3:30 PM PKT, Monday-Friday). Fundamentals update quarterly when companies file annual reports. The stock list is cached for 1 hour.

What does Shariah Compliant mean?

Stocks that meet Islamic finance screening criteria are part of the KMI (KSE Meezan Index). PSX screens companies based on business activities and financial ratios against Shariah guidelines. Look for the green Shariah badge on qualifying stocks.

Can I track my portfolio on MunafaPlus?

Yes! Create a free account and add your holdings. We support manual entry and PDF broker statement import. Track cost basis, P&L, dividends, and NAV snapshots automatically.

How does the AI Assistant work?

The AI Assistant understands natural language questions about PSX stocks. Ask 'Is HBL cheap?' or 'Which stocks are at support?' and it uses 49+ tools to analyze data in real-time — fetching klines, fundamentals, market breadth, and more.

What is a P/E ratio?

Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio compares a stock's price to its earnings per share. A low P/E (under 8) may indicate the stock is cheap; a high P/E (over 25) suggests it's expensive. But P/E alone doesn't tell the full story — compare within sectors.

What is dividend yield?

Dividend yield is the annual dividend divided by the stock price, expressed as a percentage. A 10% yield means you get Rs 10 in dividends for every Rs 100 invested annually. High yields can signal either a good payout or a falling stock price.

What are PSX trading hours?

PSX is open Monday to Friday. Pre-open session: 9:15-9:30 AM. Regular trading: 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Closing session: 3:30-4:00 PM. Market is closed on weekends and Pakistani public holidays.

What is the KSE-100 index?

The KSE-100 is the benchmark index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, tracking the top 100 companies by market capitalization across all sectors. It's the main indicator of overall market performance.

What are circuit breakers?

PSX implements circuit breakers (upper and lower locks) to prevent extreme price movements. If a stock hits its circuit limit, trading in that stock is halted. Limits vary by stock category (regular, tier-1, etc.).

How do I open a brokerage account?

You need a CDC (Central Depository Company) account. Major PSX brokers include Arif Habib, AKD Securities, Foundation Securities, and others. Many now offer online account opening with mobile apps. You'll need your CNIC, bank account, and proof of address.

What is book closure?

Book closure is the date on which a company determines which shareholders are eligible to receive dividends or bonus shares. If you buy a stock after its book closure date, you won't receive that particular dividend.

Is this financial advice?

No. MunafaPlus is an educational and informational tool. All data and analysis is provided for informational purposes only. Always do your own research and consult a qualified financial advisor before investing.

What is market breadth?

Market breadth measures how many stocks are advancing vs declining. If 350 stocks are up and 150 are down, breadth is positive. It's a quick health check for the overall market direction.

What does 'at support' mean?

A stock trading 'at support' is near its historical price floor — the level where buyers historically step in. Our screeners identify stocks near support levels, which may offer entry opportunities. But support levels can break.

Can I compare stocks on MunafaPlus?

Yes! Ask the AI Assistant 'Compare HBL, UBL and MCB' and it will analyze them side-by-side across PE, ROE, dividend yield, margins, and more, declaring a winner for each metric.

How do dividends work on PSX?

PSX companies typically pay dividends twice a year (interim + final). The board announces a per-share amount, an ex-dividend date, and a book closure date. You must hold shares before the book closure to receive the dividend.
